Ten of Jesus' 12 disciples were martyred as He was, and many more were also killed as the Early Church began and grew. Many of these killings were by the Romans, who ruled over Israel for hundreds of years beginning in about 63 B.C. Many Christians were viciously killed in Rome itself by at the direction of Rome's emperors, such as Nero, whether it was simply because of the believers' faith, blame misplaced on them, or for the Romans' entertainment in the Coliseum. Martyrdom is a dark theme throughout the history of humanity from the Fall to the end-times, although in the game of Redemption, martyrs are Christians who were killed after Jesus' death.

Deck strategy and tips:

  • Preaching in the Synagogue and Miracle at the Gate is CBN (cannot be negated) with Stephen in battle.
  • Guardian of Your Souls works well with this deck to keep lost souls in play due to the Martyrs theme.
  • The evil enhancement side of Third Bowl of Wrath will work with your Emperors so long as you have Rome in play.
  • Watch out for Nero's site discard ability, as it will discard your own Roman Prison! But the "Far Country" Lost Soul can recur it.
  • Maximize your hand-control cards like Denarius, Birthing Pains, Emperor Domitian, etc. to force your opponent to discard from hand!
