Deck strategy and tips:

  • The deck’s offense and defense seeks to disrupt your opponent’s territory while offering strong rescues and blocks. The territory destruction strategy will help weaken your opponent’s resources and support cards throughout the game, making it more difficult for them to win battles due to their deck’s strategy being disrupted.
  • The offense uses three main Hero types, all of which synergize very well and are backed up by related good enhancements, most of which can be used on any of these heroes:  Angels, Royalty, and Prophets.  Out of these the angels make up the bulk of the offense and are split between OT and NT angels.  The two royal heroes are mainly for conditional requirement for the OT angel, Justice Bringer, but can also be used as a small offense due to have some enhancement support represented.  Additionally, Jehoshaphat serves as a lynchpin for the offense due to being able to band to any warrior.  The third type of rescuers are two green brigade prophets:  Daniel the Apocalyptist and Jonah.  While Jonah is virtually never used as a rescuer (but can be in a pinch due to having some enhancement support) but is primarily used to remain in territory to disrupt your opponent's territory, Daniel is a strong rescuer and synergizes very well with the OT angels.
  • Banding among the heroes is very strong and can be overwhelming to your opponent's defense.  This is the primary means of attacking/rescuing.  However, lone heroes can also attack and potentially win battles with battle-winning enhancements.  But the band should be used as often as possible, in order to increase your chances at a successful rescue, inflicting the most damage to an opponent's territory, and benefiting the most from their respective abilities.  Here is one of the strongest bands that can be done and includes 5 heroes in the band:   Manasseh - Jehoshaphat - Captain of the Host - Daniel's Guardian (who exchanges to deck or discard pile for Daniel) - Daniel - Servants by the River.
  • For OT Angels, there are several combinations of attack:  Jehoshaphat can band to any of them as they are all warriors; or, Captain of the Host can band to any of those angels by themselves, or they can attack and potentially add Daniel to battle.  A strong rescue is Captain banded to The Destroyer, particularly when you have Death of Firstborn in hand as The Destroyer can play it once blocked.
  • For NT Angels, like The Destroyer, The Strong Angel (TSA) can play a Revelation enhancement once blocked.  Or, attack with Servant Angel and have your other two Revelation angels in territory so you can get a draw 3 with him.  Another combination is to use Jehoshaphat to band to Servant Angel to add some extra strength to battle.  Or, if you have Son of God in hand and your opponent has two souls out, use One of Seven to snag New Jerusalem from deck to win two souls!
  • For Royal heroes, consider banding both Manasseh and Jehoshaphat into battle, then band to Captain to band to Justice Bringer.  By doing this, you probably won't have any human heroes in territory for Justice Bringer to hit (or perhaps you bounced your human with Jehoshaphat so it wouldn't be discarded by Justice Bringer) as you have your two purple kings in battle thus cannot be targeted.
  • For Jonah and Daniel, try and keep Jonah in territory to help deter your opponent from searching.  While Daniel is a strong rescuer by himself, he's even stronger when you use the two Daniel-related angels to interact with him.  So try and use these angels with Daniel when possible.  Be careful with Daniel and your NT enhancements (like the two bowls of wrath) as he negates those.  You should have enough of a compliment of OT enhancements that he can use.
  • If you can gain the initiative, play Hailstones of Captain so you can potentially wipe out not only all of the Evil Characters in battle, but you could also wipe any Evil Characters out in your opponent's territory!
  • Be careful when using TSA and having Death of Firstborn in hand as TSA will toss it instead of using it as an interrupt/battle winner, due to the CBN wording in it.
  • Use Jacob's Ladder and Covenant with Abraham (as an artifact) to take one of your two OT angels from the Reserve (or use Covenant with Abraham to take Captive Princes from the Reserve if you're being soul droughted, then attack with him and add Manasseeh and/or Jehoshaphat to battle).  Covenant with Abraham is also good as a battle-winning enhancement that can be played on any of your angels, as well as Jonah or Daniel.
  • A nice combo you can benefit from without much of a cost to you is to use Prosperity lost soul to discard one of your NT angels or Daniel to get a draw 2, then play Patmos to recur that angel or Daniel's Guardian in battle to exchange for Daniel in the discard pile.
  • Lost Anointing is a powerful card that can easily take out any of your opponent's characters in territory who won a battle.  Use it to target the right character at the right time to make it harder for your opponent to rescue or block!  Also, it can be played in battle and get around cards like Foreign Wives' CBN protection, so long as you play it on one of your two purple heroes.
  • The defense works to disrupt your opponent’s territory, “chump” block your opponent, and als incorporates meek Lost Souls to help synergize with the Sadducees portion of the defense. has some strong blockers but most of them have low numbers.  Their biggest benefit is to "chump block" the opponent (such as Fire Foxes, Foreign Wives and some protection with some of the Sadducee-related cards).  All of these defensive tactics are supported by various battle-winning / negating enhancements.  This should be able to buy you enough time for your heroes to rescue enough souls to win.
  • Typically, the best blockers that can potentially hit multiple targets in your opponent's territory are Outsiders, The Brood of Vipers, and Devouring Philistines (DP).  Outsiders is a great early game block as it's most likely your opponent will have more cards in play than you.  DP is perfect for when your opponent has multiple good brigades in battle.
  • Cards like Betrayal, Flying Scroll (artifact side) and Besieged are a great way to get rid of pesky cards from your opponent's territory, making it harder for your opponent to rescue.
  • A fun play is to benefit from multiple Sadducee abilities, such as using The Chief Priests to block to obtain a Sadducee from deck or Reserve.  Then, exchange TCP with The Brood of Vipers to hit a good card in opponent’s territory. He then can exchange for a Sadducee, perhaps Malchus, who can capture himself to opponent’s Land of Bondage to take a Sadducee from Reserve or territory and add a Sadducee to battle.
  • Capitalize on having meek lost souls in your Land of Bondage by using various Sadducee-related abilities that gain benefits due to those souls being in your control. These include  Surreptitious Scheme, which can take Christian Martyr (or any other evil NT card from deck), Emphatic Incriminators (which can get a draw), Plotting Priests, etc.
