There’s nothing more annoying for a player than for his deck to be milled during a game…and, nothing as satisfying for the player doing the milling! This Contender Deck will not disappoint either way!  Use strong N.T. gold heroes and related support cards to reserve several cards from your opponent’s deck, while doubling the damage by using gold Exodus-themed cards to discard cards from the deck.  Then, blast those milled cards away with the powerful dominant, Voice from Heaven!  Caution:  this deck may cause you to upset some friends!

Check out our promo video here, created by RobMStudios! (note: the 2019 New Jerusalem Promo has been replaced by the I/J+ New Jerusalem card which has the same ability).

See bottom for recommended cards you can purchase separately to help boost this deck’s theme, some of which are Classic cards to modify this deck to that format!

Deck strategy and tips:

  • OVERVIEW
  • The offense and defense seeks to mill (or remove cards from a deck) as many cards as possible from your opponent's deck.  It also incorporates a few cards, such as Vain Vision, Balaam's Prophecy, and False Prophecy that rearrange cards on the top of your opponent's deck, which will place the more powerful cards on top of the deck, which will then be milled by subsequent milling cards.
  • THE OFFENSE
  • The offense is straight-forward and uses various N.T. gold brigade heroes to rescue souls, while doing as much milling as possible.  They have strong band abilities which, when paired correctly, can potentially double-mill your opponent's deck.
  • The offense has several cards that have star abilities on them that reserve cards from your opponent's deck.  Therefore, don't forget to use these during your opening hand and your subsequent draw phases.
  • The Centurion at Capernaum is a strong rescuer who can be obtained from deck by Denarius, or the Darkness lost soul.  He negates evil characters and can reserve an evil enhancement from opponent's deck, and he has large numbers.  Additionally, use The Watchful Servant to band to that centurion so you can get a double-mill.  You can also use the centurion to band to the other good centurion (The Centurion at Calvary).
  • Jairus banded to Jairus' Daughter (JD) is a powerful rescuing option as he negates other cards (except JD), and you can use her toss ability to make it more difficult for your opponent to be able to block and use an evil enhancement to win the battle.
  • Plague of Hail played on Moses is a powerful way to mill 5 cards from your opponent's deck!  Here's a way to set it up.  If you don't have Pharaoh's Daughter yet, play Egypt to take her from deck, then play her to take Moses from the Reserve.  Then, use Delivered to activate Moses’ Staff to take your plagues from the Reserve (if you already had Good Seed in play, you can use that to take one of the plagues).  Then, play Moses and play Plague of Hail on him.  Discard Pharaoh's Daughter (or one of your other evil Exodus cards) to mill the top 5 of your opponent's deck.  Follow-up with this with Plague of Blood to potentially mill even more!  To maximize the damage to your opponent's deck before using these plagues, use Vain Vision, False Prophecy, and/or Balaam's Prophecy to set the top cards of the deck so you can hit the most powerful cards with your plagues.
  • Sometimes your opponent's deck is protected with territory-class heroes, such as Jacob (Israel) and The Four Living Creatures, and/or support cards, like Seven Lamps of Fire and Storehouse.  This is why this deck includes cards like Foreign Spears, Distressed lost soul, and Image of Beast, so you can get around the protection and mill away!
  • A powerful play is to use Samaritan Water Jar (SWJ) to reserve the top 3 of your opponent's deck (make sure you have a Samaritan in play when you do this so you can reserve SWJ, instead of discarding it).  Then, on your next turn, use Delivered (make sure you have an Egyptian in play) to activate it from your reserve, then reserve it again with your Samaritan in play.  Also, if you get lucky enough, use the star ability on Duplicity to topdeck SWJ after you used SWJ at least one time, then draw it with one of your drawing cards to play it again!
  • Near end game, or in a pinch, use Vain Vision to manipulate the top cards of your deck.  Then, use one of your draw abilities and/or rescue with The Persistent Widow so you can draw the top 2 cards of your deck.  Hopefully, you were able to draw the best cards you topdecked with Vain Vision, such as Son of God and/or New Jerusalem!
  • When you've reserved enough cards from your opponent's deck, and discarded enough from your various deck discarding abilities, use Voice from Heaven to banish those cards so your opponent can't recur them.
  • THE DEFENSE
  • Similar to the offense, the defense seeks to mill as many cards from your opponent's deck as possible via discarding the cards (versus reserving the cards, like how the offense primarily does).  The defense also involves heavy banding with a few of your Egyptians, but also is meant to stall your opponent's rescues with "chump" blocks, such as playing Unsuccessful, Foreign Wives, Drusilla, and Egyptian Treasures.
  • A way to gain some good speed to your deck is to use Denarius to take Emperor Tiberius from deck, then play him so you can discard Denarius to get a draw 3.  You can tutor Denarius with Delivered, if needed.
  • If you only have one lost soul in play, use Egyptian Wise Men to obtain Egyptian Treasures from your Reserve.  Then, play it do get a mill and protect that soul from rescue.
  • Use Clinging to Power to obtain many different defensive options that involve banding or protect abilities from deck or Reserve.  This is a great way to snag an evil character that you may need to block, or an enhancement that can help potentially win the battle.
  • A strong block (if you can get it up at the right time) is to have Taskmaster in your territory.  Block with Egyptian Wise Men to obtain Egyptian Army from the Reserve.  Then, band to The Hard-Hearted Pharaoh to get a mill 2.  Have him band to Egyptian Army to get a mill 3, then band to Taskmaster to get a mill 1.  By the end of this band your opponent's deck will have had 6 cards discarded from it!
