Throughout their history, the Isrealites had numerous enemies who they fought in countless battles. One of those was the Syrians, who King David in particular fought against as recorded in II Samuel. The capital of Syria was Damascus, and it was located in the Aram region northeast of Israel. One of the most famous Syrians in the Bible, mentioned in II Kings, army commander Naaman, became a follower of the Lord after God healed him of leprosy through his encounter with the prophet Elisha. Enjoy this Contender deck featuring a matchup of ancient foes!

Deck strategy and tips:

  • Convert Naaman as soon as possible (Naaman’s Servant Girl is your best option to convert him), for when you do he will become one of your best attackers (along with Benaiah) as he makes all O.T. good enhancements CBN.
  • Offensively, if your opponent bands defenders, use Faith of Barak. If they don't band, use Bravery of David. Recur either with A Soldier's Prayer.
  • Amasai the Raider is a really helpful utility Hero—not only can he discard any evil enhancement from your opponent's deck, by looking through their deck you gain valuable information about their strategy and may even be able to deduce what's in their hand.
  • Defensively, Naaman is also your strongest blocker, as all of your O.T. evil enhancements played on him are CBN. He is especially awesome when equipped with Naaman's Chariot and Horses beforehand to get the draw 2 and play first abilities.
  • King Rezin is also dangerous with Naaman's Chariot and Horses equipped, as he can CBN band and then play an enhancement, which if it's a capture ability (such as Night Raid) will also be CBN!
  • Use Damascus for speed and recursion, Ram's Horn to make your good enhancements CBI, Captured Kinsman, Naaman’s Servant Girl, and Night Raid for soul gen.
  • If you have special initiative, or are losing by the numbers, use Lurking to interrupt the battle and band in one of your Syrians who has a weapon equipped to it to change the tide of battle and put your opponent on the defense!
  • Reserve accessing cards: “Foreigner” Lost Soul, Covenant of Palestine, Elhanan, Bow of Battle, King Rezin.
