This splash Contender Deck centers around “choose the blocker“ abilities on your heroes. It capitalizes on this strategy by specifically targeting evil characters that you intentionally place in your opponent’s territory.  These evil characters are mostly in the form of “Fool” cards, which give themselves to your opponent’s territory, via their star ability, and cause havoc in that territory by their special ability.  Since there are several Fools of differing brigades, there’s a strong chance that your opponent won’t even have the right brigade color to play Enhancements on them even when you do choose them to block, causing you to potentially win the battle straight away!  To further this “choose the blocker” strategy, your defense, which is composed of Canaanites, also are given to your opponent’s territory by their special abilities, potentially allowing you to choose them to block, too. This deck’s strategy is very unique and is a lot of fun to play...but not so much fun for your opponent!

Deck strategy and tips:

  • The primary purpose and most effectiveness of the offense is to use the “choose the blocker” strategy on the Fool or Canaanite you give to your opponent’s territory, so try and use this ability as often as you can...and don’t worry, this deck has been designed to help you achieve that goal.  Try and find out as soon as possible which evil brigade(s) your opponent is using so you know whether you want to use the Canaanite strategy or which Fool to give over; you want to avoid giving your opponent evil brigades that he has enhancements for. Also, for your heroes that choose male, human evil characters to block, know that all of the Fools in this deck are targetable as males, and they’re all humans.
  • If the Fool strategy doesn’t work, your opponent isn’t using black enhancements, and/or to use the choose the blocker ability in conjunction with the Fools you give your opponent, then switch to giving your opponent your Canaanites so you can choose them to block.  There are several cards in the deck that will allow you to perform this Canaanite giving strategy.  Outside of this your Canaanites have strong abilities and enhancements that can win, if you play them the right way.
  • Moses is primarily in the deck for the use of his star ability, which allows you to shuffle any number of cards from hand (including him) to draw that many.  This is in the event that you have two or more Fools in hand, or one is already in your opponent’s territory. Hopefully you won’t redraw any once you shuffle them! And remember that star abilities don’t activate when a draw ability is used, hence the reason this deck hardly has any draw abilities.
  • Use Oath of Purity as an artifact to bounce Bathsheba so you can reset her to chose the blocker when your David or King Solomon enter battle. Also, Oath is a good way to bounce your Ehud or Deborah so you can exchange them with Angel with the Secret Name, who makes your Judges cards CBN. Additionally, you can use Oath to bounce a Fool in your opponent’s territory in the event you don’t want that Fool there, for whatever reason.
  • King Solomon is a great way to see your opponent’s hand, to search for an O.T. Fortress (in this deck, it’s Jericho), and can work synergistically with Bathsheba to choose the blocker.
  • If your Fool is discarded, or you have to discard one from hand because you have one too many to be able to play, you can always topdeck one with Malachi, since he topdecks a star card from discard pile.
  • David is a great way to underdeck any lost souls that may be at the top of your deck, or to underdeck any extra Fools that you would draw on your next turn but don’t need.
  • Plague of Darkness, David’s Proclamation and Faith of Gideon are perfect against choosing a Fool to block as, instead of removing the Fool from play, you would withdraw the Fool back to your opponent’s territory, causing his ability to reactivate for your opponent’s next upkeep, and to set you up to choose to block with him next turn!
  • Use King of Tyrus as way to give a Canaanite from your Reserve (which, in this deck is Doomed Canaanites and Canaan, the Cursed) to opponent’s territory to set you up for a potential blocker to chose on your next turn.
  • Covenant Breakers lost soul can topdeck any star card from your Reserve. A good one to target is Doomed Canaanites, so you can draw it on your next turn. You can also target Scattered Sheep or Malachi, as they are both star cards.
  • Once you’re able to give a Canaanite to your opponent’s territory, activate Idols of Canaan during your prep phase so you can convert a hero in that territory to a black evil character. Then, during the battle phase, use one of your choose the blocker heroes to choose that evil character to block!
  • Use Jericho to hold one of your two black curses so you can free up your artifact pile to activate other artifacts on it.
