Deck strategy and tips:
OVERVIEW:
-
Attack with big protected bands using Dominant support or send in a solo rescuer to get initiative and then play a banding Enhancement to generate value and force draws.
-
Get Abomination of Desolation ("Abom") online as soon as possible and use it to pick apart your opponent's territory as you hold them off with strong blockers.
THE OFFENSE:
- You'll be looking to win a lot of battles with Amos by banding him in with the plethora of banding Enhancements. Some Enhancements, like Return to Fight and Entertaining Angels require a step in between by banding to The Victorious Being to exchange or Seraph to band, but either way you should be able to find Amos and shuffle some blockers.
- The Amos gameplan is strong, but it is vulnerable to banding. Use Isaiah's shuffle ability to target banders before they block or just hang onto The Former Forgotten or Behold the Lord with some negate backup to wipe out a band.
- The offense is a little splashy with three main brigades, which makes The Ethiopian Treasurer a sneaky good rescuer, being able to use 8 out of the 10 total good Enhancement options in the main deck.
- With no Daniel angels in the deck, you won't get to negate evil cards with Bound in Battle, but it does still allow you to shuffle a card with Isaiah and bring in an angel that can bring in Amos without needing initiative. And don't forget that Bound in Battle can bring in your opponent's angels as well.
-
Even though Abom is a key strategy for the defense, the whole deck is built to work with it, so use Kindness, Titus, and Philip's Daughters to help get more triggers, especially on your turn when your defense generally won't be forcing draws.
THE DEFENSE:
- At first glance the defense may look a little light on evil Enhancements, but the dual-alignement Enhancements are fantastic for flexibility in this deck and often, your characters are strong enough that they might be able to get blocks with little to no support. Asherah Pole and The Realm of Greece can work together to greatly limit your opponent's options, especially as you trigger Abom to hit what's left.
- Cassander of Macedon works particularly well if your opponent has a Hero with "negated" in the Special Ability in territory that you can choose to attack over and over again. As long as the Hero is big enough, it can keep surviving the battle along with your protected Cassander.
- Be mindful of the fact that occasionally you may not want the protection from The Realm of Greece because it may mean your opponent gets initiative first even if they have a massive banding chain. If you suspect that may happen, you can proactively shuffle The Realm of Greece with Shrine to Artemis, or in a pinch you can discard it with Antiochus or The Prince of Greece when you block. Best case scenario though is that Cassander can choose a lone Hero that preserves initiative.
- With no N.T. Greeks in the main deck, you will need to take Alexander of Troas from Reserve when you can to get Areopagus' draw ability online. One of the best upgrades for this deck though would be to add The Priest of Zeus.
- Antiochus is fantastic block on turn 1 because your opponent might not have another card of matching alignment in play to discard yet. Unfortunately he requires another Greek to be in play which can be accomplished by using a banding Character or Return to Fight to bring in Antiochus from deck.
- Antiochus' Army has a strange Unity condition, which requires that all your Greeks are evil. This deck actually contains one of the game's two Greek Heroes, which can be a little awkward if you want to use Antiochus' Army to block. Usually you will want to block with Antiochus' Army early though to get your idols online, and Titus may not come down early. If you need to though, you can shuffle Titus with Shrine to Artemis and regain your unity.
- Since evil Fortresses are fairly vulnerable in the current meta, it's probably best to keep Abom activated in your Artifact pile and put your other idols in Areopagus.
- Household Idols in the Reserve only protects Heroes in play from band abilities and doesn't unband any that are already banded, but you may be able to catch your opponent off guard if you use Forces Arise right before battle to surprise an opponent who was planning to band.
