Tournament Legality

Currently, there are two types of formats for regular, constructed play:  Classic and Rotation.

  • Classic - all Redemption cards made may be used.
  • Rotation - only cards with the special ability typed in the scripture box (and not over the card image) may be used.

For State, Regional, and National tournaments, only the Rotation format will be used.

However, major changes are being made to these rules in the near future! Please see the Tournament Play and Rotation Schedule information below for more details.

Tournament Play

We’re excited to share with you some changes coming for the 2026-2027 Tournament Season! These changes will not take effect until after Nationals 2026, but we want to get the information to you now so players can begin to make preparations.

TYPE 1

We will support two Type 1 - 2 Player categories at all levels of tournaments.

Type 1 - 2 Player “Limited” (formerly called “rotation"). This is similar to Type 1 as you know it today.

Type 1 - 2 Player “Unlimited” (formerly called “classic”). This format will support the pool of all cards released in the game. It will be available at all levels of tournaments, including State, Regional and National tournaments.

Teams will undergo some adjustments, which are still being vetted by the elder team. More details to come.

All Type 1 categories will have a deck size of 50-70 cards.

TYPE 2

Type 2 - 2 Player will undergo some changes to simplify the deck building rules and make the format more accessible to players. The format will continue to use the “Limited” card pool.

This format will allow 2 copies of a card per deck, regardless of brigade and type, except for Dominants and Lost Souls which are limited to 1 copy per deck. Decks will continue to require a balance of good and evil cards.

Type 2 decks must be between 100-140 cards. The Reserve size will be increased from 15 to 20 cards.

Experience credit will no longer be used in Type 2.

Other Notes

All constructed categories will support a unique ban list tailored to that category.

More details will be coming between now and August 2026 when these changes begin.

Rotation Schedule

Redemption will follow a standard rotation schedule every two years beginning at the start of the the 2027-2028 tournament season.

In August 2027 the following sets will rotate out of “Limited” categories and only be legal in “Unlimited”:

  • 4th Edition Starter Decks (I & J)
  • I/J+ cards
  • Tin XXVI cards
  • The Early Church
  • The Persecuted Church

  • Cloud of Witnesses

  • Revelation of John

A small number of promos and fundraiser cards may be banned in “Limited” categories when the standard version of that card rotates with the original set with which it was released. Details still to come.

In August 2029 the following sets will rotate out of “Limited” categories and only be legal in “Unlimited”:

  • Fall of Man
  • Prophecies of Christ
  • Lineage of Christ
  • Gospel of Christ
  • All promos and fundraiser cards without a date in the copyright line of the card.

Details are still being worked out, but following this schedule we expect the August 2031 rotation to include:

  • Israel’s Deliverance Starter Deck (K & L)
  • Israel’s Rebellion
  • Israel’s Inheritance

  • All promos up to a specific date in the copyright line.

More details will be shared during the 2026-2027 season but we want to give this information to players now so that you can prepare for these changes.
