Deck strategy and tips:

OVERVIEW:

  • With very few actual battle-winning Enhancements in the deck, this offense seeks to win Lost Souls by first winning the resource game. Between the consant hand disruption, deck disruption, and just a pinch of threatening the territory, your opponent's evil cards won't be safe anywhere. Your job then will be to determine which evil cards to prioritize disrupting at any given time to pave the way for an efficient rescue.

  • While brown is not generally well-known for its hand control prowess, it does have the potential for large payoffs after your opponent's answers have been cleared. You can use the information you gather from the offense to calculate the right time to land a surgical hand disruption piece and make way for a devastating block.

THE OFFENSE:

  •        The more you play the offense and become familiar with what defenses your opponent's are playing, the easier it will become to navigate the offense. Generally though, pay attention to what certain cards are able to target so that you don't waste opportunities, such as using The First Sacrifice to underdeck a Dominant from your opponent's hand when you're planning to attack with Cherubim (LR) anyway.
  •      The offense is split somewhat between Ezekiel and Zechariah Heroes, but the two can be connected easly through Cherubim and The Defender of the Saints exchanging to Ezekiel. Often though, you will want to begin with the Ezekiel chain and then use Cherubim to bring in the Zechariah contingent.
  •      One of the best ways to end your banding chains is with Surveying Spirit because it has the potential to shuffle any evil card from your opponent's hand as well as getting hand information even if their hand is protected at the time. Unfortunately though this sometimes leads to clashes with Ezekiel who might have to topdeck a multi-brigade evil card and leave Surveying Spirit with only one or two brigades to reveal. Putting down The Amalekites' Slave before attacking can help though. If you find that you're stuck with Confusion in hand too often and that disrupts Surveying Spirit, consider swapping in the "Shepherds" and "Grumbled" Lost Souls that can let you underdeck Confusion for future use.
  •      While Jerusalem Filled is the only banding Enhancement the deck has, you can use Bound in Battle to band to an angel that can bring in Amos for a CBI shuffle ability without needing to give your opponent initiative.
  •      Get twice the normal triggers of Hidden Treasures and The Restored Land in a turn by using Called to Prophesy for an extra attack. Just be careful not to bring in any angels when you think you might want to play it.
  •      Covenant of Time converts itself to an active Artifact, so often times you will want to use it as an Enhancement on a small character like Deborah to take Plague of Lice from Reserve and play it twice to clear the way for a battle winner, but perhaps the more fun use is to bounce Enjoy Their Hands after you've used it to negate their evil Enhancement and play their own good one against them.
  •      While Sixth Bowl of Wrath may be used most often by the defense, you may be able to catch someone off guard by using the good side on one of your angels. Haggai banded to Surveying Spirit is a great way to have initiative to play Sixth Bowl before unloading some green Enhancements with Haggai.
  •      Speaking of Haggai, not only does he connect the two parts of the offense, but he also can recycle Judge's Seat every turn to make your opponent's territory isn't a safe haven for the Characters in their hand.

THE DEFENSE:

  •       The key turn 1 block this deck would love to make is to use Ahasuerus, the Father to find and play Confusion, naming Son of God to banish it from your opponent's hand or deck. Not only does this take away both of their free rescues, but it also gives you hand information right away so you're ready to attack even if you don't win that battle. The Amalekite's Slave, Darius' Satraps, and Perplexing Vision can all help get to Ahasuerus early in the game, but note that if you add Ahasuerus to battle with Perplexing Vision, PV counts toward your board advantage number.
  •      This defense really wants to be able to play its evil Enhancements, so the deck has a couple "add to battle" options and territory protection to mitigate against good Dominants and "choose the blocker" rescues that your opponent might use to try to stop your evil Enhancements from coming down. The more cards you can add to the deck that help that cause, such as Sheol and the "Color Guard" Lost Soul, the more effective they will be.
  •      As you see your opponent's hand, take note of what good Enhancements they have with "interrupt" in the Special Ability. You may be able to sneak in a solo Cyrus block without having to spend any resources.
  •      In the spirit of limiting your opponent's options, restricting Dominants is another strong effect and it makes Enforcing Ideology a strong play, especially on The Guard at the Den who can make it CBN. Once you've placed it in territory, you can use Amos to shuffle it as needed for reuse and to open up good Dominants for your attack.
  •      If something has you falling behind, such as an aggressive start or hand protection you can't deal with, then King Xerxes can come out of nowhere to do a lot of damage. Unless they play to set-aside area, any Fortresses you set aside with his ability will no longer be active.
